Bally, Midway,
Atari, Williams, there all the same to me
Midway Games reported positive Q1 earnings, thanks to a 57.9 percent
increase in net income during the quarter. The company reported a
net income of $11.3 million on revenues of $106.6 million for the
quarter ended September 30. Midway expects record results for FY2000,
which ends June 30, 2000. The company expects to ship 24 titles

also made a $250,000 equity investment in the unit. Here is just another
company Chaimowitz can help to drive into the ground. Perhaps he should
get the Cayare brothers on board too, so together they can milk and
swindle shareholders out of their investment.

Dave Lee Proves
Car is not Dent Resistant
Yesterday, Dave Lee of SCEA set out to prove that his car, a Mitsubishi
3000GT, could withstand a pounding from a guy riding a bike. His
search was successful as he rams his car into the biker. In a mild
ramming, only Dave's ego was hurt. The guy riding the bike was ok
but had to be taken to the hospital. No blood was spilled in this
tragic accident. In the end, Dave doesn't prove his car is industructible,
instead he proves the opposite. "Buffy told me that biker was
a vampire!" says Dave. "I was doing it for all mankind."
Rumor: Bernie Stolar and THQ from
fatbabies.com
Word
is ex-Sega COO Bernie Stolar is headed over to THQ to be their next
president. He was spotted at the ECTS Show in London during early
September smoozin' it up with the boys from THQ. Although he made
his rounds to most of the big game publishers, the folks at THQ
seemed entranced by his abrasive style and frequent use of the word
"fuck." It is said they offered him the position immediately...
THQ has refused to comment.
X-Box to battle Sony from
gaming-age.com
The WSJ ran a lengthy article today about Microsoft's rumored X-Box.
Apparently, Microsoft has been considering pouring billions of dollars
into the X-Box, if it goes forward, as a final decision to actually
make the X-Box has not been made. Some interesting tidbits were
that it appears that an Intel Chip looks less likely and the AMD
Athlon looks more like the CPU of choice. The X-Box would not apparently
be using Windows CE, but a hybrid of Windows 98 and Windows NT that
MS has developed for non-PC applications. The WSJ expects that the
X-Box would launch in the fall of 2000 at a price of $299, mainly
to steal the thunder from the launch of the PS2.
News: 989 Studios Continues PSX Run from
gamepro.com
Certainly worth celebration by 989 Studios is the fact that their
Syphon Filter game for the Sony PlayStation(r) has been at the top
of the best-seller videogame charts since February of this year,
when the title launched. This is confirmed by the September TRSTS
Report from the NPD Group. And what do you experience with this
title? How about interactive environments, high-speed subways where
dodging becomes an art form, deadly terrorists and explosions a'plenty.
You find yourself in Special Agent Gabriel Logan's world, via a
third-person perspective, and you must find a way to halt the biological
terrorism and get inside the organization that created the "Syphon
Filter" virus. Learn more about this "bug" at www.989studios.com.

StarCraft Gals a Sham...
One of the biggest hoaxes played in the history of online games
is revealed recently as a team of "girls" known as the
SCgals reveal themselves to be boys. The StarCraft
Gals became the most popular clan on the planet and battle.net
due to the attraction that they may have been women. The attraction
of playing a girl had made many players join other clans in time
for scheduled Tournaments with the SCGals. The SCGals had one of
the best records knocking off many clans in Broodwars including
the illustrious ']['ransformer clan. A player named Tom Brokaw (Named
after the newsman) masterminded this project and used pictures from
Personals Sites as pictures of the members themselves. Tom Brokaw
announced that some of these pictures were from the Lesbian section.
He also goes on to announce that he meant no harm to women or anyone
else and says that his real clan could not get challenges from anyone.
He says that as soon as the SCGals started he received too many
challenges. Tom Brokaw has also made a list of the players that
harrassed the SCGals for being girls. He documented these accounts
and they should be appearing all over the internet shortly.
TLC Blamed as Mattel Suffers from
fgnonline.com
Industry: Mattel's May '99 acquisition of The Learning Company has
been blamed for the world's largest toy company's dismal Q3 financials.
Mattel has hastily warned investors to expect a similarly disappointing
Q4 performance, but the warning seems to have come too late - the
company has been named in shareholder lawsuits claiming investors
were misled about the health of the firm. Mattel's 42 percent Q3
earnings drop was directly related to a $105 million loss suffered
by the Learning Company, which was acquired for $3.8 billion back
in May and was originally expected to earn $50 million for the period.
Industry analysis has been damning, with blame being heaped on Mattel's
upper management. Institutional investors were apparently "stunned"
that Thursday's announcements did not include management changes,
shown by a comment from Credit Suisse First Boston analyst Martin
Romm who declared, "I think management at the Learning Company has
to be held accountable."

Battle Tanx:

You know you've

videogame is the target for a cease & desist court order from one
of the giants of the industry. So what does 3DO do for an encore
to their great BattleTanx commercial featuring that lovable Treddy
Bear? You're damn right. Wheel that little ball of fluff back in
front of the camera for BattleTanx: Global Assault and say to hell
with the watchdogs and grumpy old coots of corporate America. Whether
he looks like Snuggles or not, that little bear sells games when

Syphon Filter
makes Top 5 in Jan - Aug per TRSTS Sales
In IGN.com's article about the Top Selling video games according
to TRSTS Sales resports seen here
Syphon Filter, with the run-from-it title, is the top selling Playstation
game during this period. However, Mario and Pocket Monsters control
the top 4 overall video games sales surpassing all of the PSX titles.
Nintendo who has been price dumping N64's to make way for the new
"Doshin" machine is seeing slight success with Pokemon.
Pokemon, which is currently facing allegations that buying Pokemon
cards is gambling, holds to the Top 2 spots during this TRST period.
Jeff Rotter of Bandai argues, "That ain't nothing, dawg. Buying
any Bandai game is a gamble."

Prelude for Sale by Jeff Ng
After all the publicity for Ron's Car, Wilson aka Prelude has decided
that he is going to sell his car. It's a 1998 model, that is white
with leather, alarm and fog lights. You can see it parked in the

"get in, sit down, shut up, & hold on". He is asking for $20K for
his car, but experts believe only someone nicknamed "Prelude"
would pay that much.

Nintendo's
Doshin is Dead in Japan from
FGNONLINE.COM
Industry: Japanese gamers are not overly excited about Nintendo's
next-generation platform with only 5.1 percent of gamers who took
part in a survey saying they'll buy it on the first day of release.
Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu Weekly conducted the survey, which
online sources have picked up on today. The figures are not good
reading for Nintendo with a quarter of those surveyed waiting to
see how Dolphin turns out before deciding on purchase. A good deal
of this hesitancy can be explained by the company's reluctance to
give firm details of the project. By far the largest percentage
(38.1%) are hanging fire and answered "I don't know," when asked
if they would purchase the system. As you would expect poor results
for Nintendo mean the opposite for rival Sony. Despite misgivings
about the price with over fifty percent thinking the tag is at least
a "little" too high, a massive 34.3 percent said they would be parting
with their cash for PlayStation2 on the day of release. Gamers,
developers and distributors who were surveyed also unanimously voted
Sony as number one after three years, placing Nintendo a very poor
third behind Sega. With PlayStation2's Gran Turismo 2000 being the
most hotly anticipated game the survey leaves no doubt, but it ain't
no Twisted Metal 4 for the playstation.

The Secret
to Julius' Success
We have had many success stories here at gamelord.org but none as
impressive as Julius Willis rise from Jaffe's Dark Gun. Co-workers
such as Greg Faccone speculate on his unethical approach to super
stardom but all rumors remain rumors... Until Now. Due to this shocking
and revealing photo, Julius has decided to come out of the closet
and let the world know of his formula for success. One of the Producers
of Twisted Metal 4 can be seen in the yellow shirt waiting to have
Julius talk into the "mike".
Julius has the biggest office at 989 Studios San Diego and can now
only admit to the way he "worked" out his office arrangement.
In his own defense, Willis argues, "I'm just a Philipino boy.
I'm not accustomed to buildings, concrete and wires. Your world...
it frightens me. This technology.. scares me." Previous stories
reveal his film career and all of the answers to the many questions
will be answered in the Julius Willis Interview.

Europe Goes
"Dreamcast Crazy"
Retailers throughout Europe opened their doors just after midnight
this morning to cater to Europe's most rabid console gamers. What
was the reason for all the hoopla? The European launch of the hot
new gaming platform, the Sega Dreamcast! Electronic retail outlets
all across the continent hosted cocktail parties with media personalities,
giveaways, and folks dressed up as popular Dreamcast characters
("You know . . . I think Sonic the Hedgehog has had a few too many
Guiness Stouts . . .). London's Virgin Megastore even had boxers
Chris Eubanks and Nigel Benn on hand to "duke it out" on the Dreamcast
fight game "Virtua Fighter 3." According to statistics provided
by Electronic Boutique, the big movers so far have been Sonic's
Adventure, Sega Rally 2, and Ready2Rumble. The word from Sega is
that it has shipped 350,000 Dreamcasts to Europe for the big day,
and estimates that sales will reach 700,000 units by the end of
November. They are also promising that 40 Dreamcast titles will
be available by the Christmas season.
Sony Believes
In Santa -- Well, At Least The Presents
Sony Computer Entertainment America is definitely interested in
having folk tell Santa all about their products, and to that end,
the company is investing some $150 million in a marketing program
for the upcoming holiday season. Plus, there's a rather influential
array of strategic partnerships arranged 'tween the PlayStation
deliverer and such companies as MTV, Pizza Hut, and others. Already
the Sony PlayStation may be found in one of five homes throughout
the U.S. Some of the xpromos include the PSX and MTV team-up for
the "MTV Campus Invasion" that'll occur from October 19th through
November 30th. Throughout the U.S., 25 college campuses will be
treated to some great concerts by bands that include the likes of
Garbage and others. Pizza Hut is also going to partner with Sony
for a holiday promo that they expect will be double the size of
last year's whiz-bang PSX goings-in. And there will be an on-air
promo with Fox Kids Network for a Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage encounter.
The winnings? Getting to cruise around in a limo to and from school
and playing Spyro within the luxurious confines of said vehicle
as well as hosting a PSX party for all classmates. There's a Cartoon
Network promo, The Kids WB! promo, and plenty of retail goodness
to spread holiday PSX-based cheer. To really get into the buying
spirit, head over to www.playstation.com.

he asked for $55K/year instead of a realistic salary. Now Jeff is
thinking about going to Crave where he is going to ask for the same
salary.
Solid Snake
to PSX 2 from game-online.com
When Hideo Kojima confirmed a Metal Gear Solid title for PlayStation
2, fans of arguably the finest game PlayStation has ever seen went
into floods of ecstasy. The very first details of the title have
just come to light. The protagonist will remain as Solid Snake,
although the rest of the character list is unknown. Instead of plumbing
the depths of nuclear bunkers, Snake gets the full run of a major
city in the PlayStation 2 version, although whether or not the location
is Japanese, American or European is being closely guarded by Konami.
The plot for the game is locked down harder than Fort Knox and Konami
is in no mood to proffer the key. Anxious to get a glimpse of the
future? Buy Metal Gear Solid VR Special Missions for PlayStation
- two of the CG sequences in the intro show Snake looking round
walls and were taken directly from PlayStation 2. Are they part
of the actual 128-bit game? Konami will neither confirm or deny.

Memory Prices
Rise as Manufacturers Announce Shortage
So much for cheap RAM . . . Micron Technologies led the charge last
week as they announced that it is sold out of DRAM chips, and has
begun "rationing" memory to the most major PC vendors -- a move
that most other memory manufacturers have followed. 64Mbit DRAMs
have risen to $10 -- up from $9 just last week and $4.50 in July.
PC OEM's that have been taking advantage of cheap memory prices
by stuffing their boxes full of RAM will be forced to take measures
to counter the current shortage. "We were warning our customers
for two months that the industry would be on allocation in the fourth
quarter because of demand rapidly closing the gap with supply,"
stated Jamie Stitt, DRAM Marketing Manager at Toshiba America Electronic
Components Inc. "We're not surprised, and expect allocations to
continue into the first quarter of 2000." Micron can be visited
on the web at http://www.micron.com.
